12/8/2023 0 Comments The resolutioners are coming![]() ![]() ![]() Now diets that promise a quick fix should be avoided at all cost, this includes the likes of (Yep, i’m going there) of Weight Watchers, Slimming World and Cambridge. One of my biggest issues with the industry is the complete lack of structure to the food and diet industry. For a newcomer to the gym, they aren’t necessary and the focus should be put onto a structured nutrition and training plan. Supplements are there to supplement the diet and are a convenient way of getting in nutrients if you’re unable to eat. Supplements seem to have this stigma and aura around them like they’re some magic potion for achieving goals. When you work in the industry all you will hear from members is the question “What supplements do you take?”. Just make sure you don’t disturb someone mid set otherwise expect a few harsh words coming your way! Not only will it cut down on the amount of time you’re spending in the gym, but it also helps you get to know some more of your fellow gym goers. One thing i encourage in my gym is letting people work in whilst you rest. There’s nothing worse than someone hogging a bit of kit, especially if they’re too busy instagraming their current workout to the world. Everyone is there for themselves and the moment the headphones go in, most people are in their own little world! You are not the only one and everyone feels just the same as you, even those you’d consider to be in “perfect shape” still have insecurities about the way they want to look. Nine times out of 10 you exercise because you’re not happy with the way you look and feel with your current body. Everyone who joins a gym is there for the same reason, to better theirselves physically and mentally. Honestly it couldn’t be further from the truth. One of the most common anxieties when joining a gym is the fear of people staring at you and judging. Selfies are acceptable, just know theres a time and a place for them! Everyone sweats and smells, but don’t be that person who stinks before they’ve even started!Ħ. Use chalk, chalk is acceptable in most gyms just make sure you’re cleaning up after yourself once you’re done.ĥ. Wipe down kit after use, its hygienic and shows you’re not a complete idiot.Ĥ. Put weights back where they belong, the staff aren’t there to tidy up after you.ģ. Don't chuck weights about, it's not good for the kit and you only make yourself look silly.Ģ. However heres a few golden rules to abide by at any facility you visit:ġ. All gyms worth their weight will have an etiquette on display for their members to adhere to. When you step foot in the gym, it’s important to respect where you are and your gyms individual etiquette. Failing that, grab one of the staff at your gym and let them know, they’ll be more than happy to get them on the right track. So instead of pointing and laughing at the guy throwing shapes in the gym, spend a bit of time advising them on what they can do to improve. Think about when you first started, how helpful would it have been to have someone point you in the right direction? Exactly. It’s not cool and its certainly not good for the body. Once again we’ve all been there, standing there trying to dumbbell curl 26kgs whilst swinging our back more than dancing to the electric slide. So give that suspension trainer or that out there exercise some attention this new years and watch the results pile up. January-March is the perfect time to try out new exercises and techniques and often leads to an increase in results as your body is being shocked with a new exercise. We all would prefer training in an empty gym so we can stick to our set exercises and order, but chances are you’ll have to adapt your sessions to what is available especially if you train at peak times. It’s inevitable that the gym is going to be busy at the start of the year, pointing it out is like saying water is wet. So to get through this period here’s my top tips for the regulars and an introduction to the gym for the newbies out there. Although it can be frustrating, its important to remember that we were all once new to the gym and went through the same situations and emotions that new gym users find themselves in this new year. Many people decide to start their fitness journey in January after overindulging over the festive period and the next few months will see a massive influx of people, that statistically won’t stay on after the honeymoon period. Ok so it's a new year and if you're a regular gym goer its probably the most frustrating time of the year for training. ![]()
